A girl from from Simwatwa village, West Pokot, has offered to sell her kidney to raise fees so that she can join form and achieve her dreams in education.
Naomi Chepkemoi, 14, who scored 325 marks in last year’s KCPE at Simatwa Primary School was selected to join St Cecilia Chepareria Girls’ Secondary School but her ailing father, Michael Ande, is unable to raise school fees. Mr Ande was diagnosed of diabetes nine years ago.
Young Chepkemoiwho, who aspires to be a lawyer, says she has unsuccessfully applied for bursaries. Her parents were separated when she was still young.
“I have lost hope of joining my dream school since I have not received any help since the time the results were released,” she told The Star at their home on Sunday.
Chepkemoi said none of those she approached in her village have offered to help, hence her decision to sell her kidney for school fees. “I feel confused and uncomfortable because all my friends have already joined form one. My sick father is unable to raise the fees required,” she said.

The girl says her science teacher taught her that a person can survive with one kidney, hence her desire to give away one if that will make her sit in a classroom. “I have been hearing that people sell kidney to get money. I am ready to sell mine too.”
“I am calling upon anyone who needs a kidney transplant to come for one and pay school fees for me in return,” she added.
Naomi fourth born in a family of five, said her uncle’s wanted her married off for them to get dowry. “My other three sisters were forced to get married when still young. I don’t want to fall in that trap.”
