Kenya attracts billionaires ahead of Obama visit

President Uhuru Kenyatta has welcomed US President Barack Obama to Kenya, terming East Africa’s biggest economy as a hub for investment and trade.

Speaking via a video posted on his page, the president said we would work with the US president in the forthcoming Global Entrepreneurship Summit. “I look forward to welcoming you to Kenya and to opportunity,” he said in the video.

Uhuru spoke over the weekend when he met a group of billionaire foreign investors led by Virgin Airlines’ Richard Branson and Strive Masiyiwa, founder and chair of Econet Wireless.

President Kenyatta said Kenya believes in the power of possibility and is committed to ensuring entrepreneurs achieve their dreams. He also said that Kenya is setting up the biggest infrastructural project in Africa and has a trailblazing mobile money transfer technology.

“Kenya represents the growth of the African continent and is a hub for investment, commerce, trade and tourism,” the President said. “Kenya epitomizes the transformation power of possibility. A land known for its Savanna now earning international repute as Silicon Savanna, where the vibrancy of the economy is matched only by the verve of our youth,” he added.

With some 2,000 entrepreneurs and investors from across the globe, President Uhuru Kenyatta and US President Barack Obama are expected to co-host the 6th Global Entrepreneurship Summit at the United Nations Complex in Gigiri on July 25 and 26.
