KCB commits Ksh100m to Obama youth initiative

KCB has entered into partnership with YALI Regional Leadership Centre under which it will to provide financial support to the tune of $1 million (Ksh100 million) over the next five years.

Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Regional Leadership Centre East Africa is part of U.S President Barack Obama’s flagship programme aimed at educating, empowering and networking young African leaders.

According to the Partnership Director of YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa, Ms Maggie Kamau-Biruri, in October KCB sponsored YALI fully.

With its broad network of branches in both urban and rural areas in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Southern Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi, the bank has committed to provide vital Business Development Services for the centre’s alumni, including affordable credit, business plan development, record keeping, financial literacy and loan application among others.

“This initiative will go a long way in advancing youth leadership opportunities in East and Central Africa that promote growth and strengthen African-based business and entrepreneurship,” said Mr Joshua Oigara, the KCB Group CEO on Thursday 12th May 2016.

“The youth hold a great sway in the direction and pace the African economy will take in the coming years as they are the holders of the greatest ideas, the energy and the commitment that is needed to drive economic transformation,” he added.

Located at Kenyatta University, the YALI Regional Leadership Center provides a collaborative learning environment that focuses on individual responsibility, innovation and results-oriented leadership. The US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec also attended the function. Other supporters of the initiative include Kenyatta University, Deloitte and MasterCard Foundation.
