Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has declared he will run for Trans Nzoia Governor in the August 2017 general election.

Mr Wamalwa said he will seek the seat held by Patrick Khaemba on a Jubilee Party ticket to “allow him to provide first hand services.”

He said he will join President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto’s party after resigning from his cabinet secretary post before February.  “Before my contract ends next year, I will resign and join a party that Uhuru will captain with Ruto his deputy,” he said.

Mr Wamalwa made the announcement at Gichugu constituency in Kiranyaga county on Thursday. He said he did not vie for Saboti MP in 2013 because he had already been endorsed by his constituents to vie for president,

Speculations had been rife that Wamalwa would vie for Nairobi Governor, though he had not officially stated it. The former Justice minister maintained a low profile prior to his appointment as CS.

He dismissed claims that he was given “only the tail of a cow to appease the western vote” with the appointment to the post. The docket was part of the Environment ministry headed by Judi Wakhungu.

Mr Wamalwa was in the area to issue title deeds to farmers being resettled after over the construction of Thiba dam. The CS was with Governor Joseph Ndathi, Senator Daniel Karaba and woman representative Winnie Karimi and Gichugu MP Njogu Barua.
