Closing Bell: Trading volume grows, key indices lose out

 The Nairobi Securities Exchange had some 15 million shares valued at KSh.84 Million traded in 1,000 deals, down from 9 million shares that were valued at KSh.98M posted yesterday.

The NSE 20 Share Index however shed 3.94 points to stand at 3,196.86, while the NSE All Share Index (NASI) lost 0.08 points to close trading Thursday at 68.84. FTSE NSE Kenya 15 Index was up 0.44 points to stand at 89.43 and FTSE NSE Kenya 25 Index was up 0.47 points to stand at 91.83.

The Banking Sector had 1.1M shares traded and represented 7.26% of the day’s traded volume. Equity Bank moved 437,000 shares at between shs.15.90 and shs.16.00. Barclays Bank declined to shs.12.35 on a volume of 169,000 shares, down from shs.12.55 posted the previous session. KCB moved 379,000 shares and closed at shs.16.65.

The Commercial & Services Sector accounted for 0.68% of the day’s traded volume. Nation Media Group down two shillings to shs.137.00 moved 42,000 shares. Construction & Allied Sector represented 1.35% of the day’s traded volume. EA Cables moved 191,000 shares and closed at shs.12.00.

Energy & Petroleum Sector moved 336,000 shares, which accounted for 2.15% of the day’s traded volume. KenGen saw 148,000 shares changing hands at between shs.8.10 and shs.8.40. The Insurance sector represented 0.99% of the day’s traded volume. British American Investments moved 99,000 shares and closed at shs.4.55.

The Investment Sector had 77,000 shares traded; Centum Investment down forty cents to shs.15.50 moved 45,000 shares. Manufacturing & Allied Sector moved 195,000 shares, which represented 1.25% of the day’s traded volume. Mumias Sugar moved 156,000 shares and closed at shs.5.05.

Telecommunication & Technology Sector moved 13M shares, which represented 85.57% of the day’s traded volume. Safaricom moved touched a high of shs.3.25 and a low of shs.3.10 on a volume of 13M shares.
