Voting in Kenya, it seems, cannot pass without a hitch.

Such a technical error affecting voters for Kenya’s best blogs in 2019 has been addressed by the body organising the awards.

The hitch affects voting, meaning some who think they have voted may actually not have their ballot counted.

An email from the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) to nominees of the BAKE Awards 2019 reveals that an important verification code needed to complete voting may not have been reaching some who are participating in the poll.

“We are aware that some people are not receiving the vote verification codes,”  BAKE said in their email.

The bloggers association then went ahead to highlight how voters can solve this problem. By use of a link provided by BAKE, voters can resend the verification code.

“If someone does not get a code after completing voting, they should go to this URL & input the number they had used before:  https://vote.bakeawards.co.ke/resend-verification-code

The link redirects to a site page where one is allowed to enter the number with which they voted with.

After inputing one’s phone number, a further redirect is forthcoming.

“They will then be redirected to the following page where they can input the code that they will now receive. https://vote.bakeawards.co.ke/reverify-vote

The redirected site looks like this;

The verification code, according to BAKE, is what ensures that votes are limited to only one per person.

It is a system that has been evolved ever since the BAKE Awards began in 2012. In earlier years, people could vote as many times but in order to make the tallying more credible, the award now limit voting to one per person.

“Voting will be limited to one vote per person and an SMS verification code will be sent once a vote has been completed,” BAKE Director James Wamathai said when the voting phase was opened.

It therefore means that voters who had not been receiving the verification code may not have had their vote cast, and subsequently it may not be counted.

For the 2019 edition of the BAKE Awards, a total of 115 blogs, video blogs (vlog) or podcasts are nominated in 24 categories.

Some of the blogs nominated include wandianjoya.com, magunga.com, fashionmobster.com among others.

Business Today Kenya is one of the nominees, although it had not made the initial list of best blogs that were revealed on May 7. The Badoer Investments owned media entity is listed in the best business blog category.

The voting phase closes on May 30.
