Mediamax Network Ltd has put up for sale its multi-million television and radio studios at Longonot Place along Kijabe Street.

In an advert placed in the People Daily newspaper last Thursday, the media house, which is associated with the Kenyatta family, announced it was selling the ultra-modern studios, which previously served its radio stations and K24 television.

The move comes after the company finalised the shifting of K24, Kameme FM, Milele FM, Mayian FM and Meru FM operations to its current base at DSM Place also along Kijabe where new state-of-the-art studios and a converged newsroom have been set up.

Mediamax is said to have finalised the purchase of the new building, which also serves as its head office, at a cost of Ksh300 million late last year as part of plans to reduce its expenses. Previously, it was operating from rented space at Longonot Place where it occupied over three floors before it began relocating to DSM in 2013.

According to insiders, Three Stones TV’s Rose Kimotho, whose Regional Reach previously owned K24 and Kameme FM, is likely to buy the TV studios, which were put up in 2012 ahead of the station’s relaunch at an estimated cost of Ksh300 million.

“She was recently here being shown around by Chief Operations Officer Ken Ngaruiya and she showed a lot of interest. The studios were sourced and installed by engineers from Israel and are as good as new,” said a Mediamax staffer.

K24’s new studios at DSM Place were launched last December as part of plans by Mediamax investors, who have pumped in close to Ksh4 billion, to entrench its presence in the news industry. A Kikuyu language television station, Kameme TV, is also in the works.

Pilipili FM, which the company bought from Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala’s Pilipili Media Ltd in February last year relaunched on Friday amid pomp and colour as it promised its Coast listeners more entertainment.
