A holiday homes and tourism development project around Mt Kenya has been picked as one of the best gated community projects this year. The nomination of the Ksh 5 billion Mt Kenya Holiday Homes by the East Africa Property Awards has also sparked interest in one of the country’s largest golf resort facilities currently under development.
The property is located in Naro Moru, near Nanyuki town and targets the popular Mt. Kenya/Laikipia tourism circuit. The project, which broke ground mid last year, is centred on a collection of 95 holiday homes each on half acre and a nine-hole golf course. In addition, it features a club house and other facilities for home owners and guests, including grounds for events ranging from destination weddings to conferences, golf tournaments , among others. The first phase of the development sold out, while phase two is over 25% sold, according to the developers.
Mr Reginald Okumu, the project manager, disclosed that at the current pace, the development will open doors for patronage by both domestic and international tourists in 2015. It is being undertaken through a unique build and transfer model to lock out speculators while guaranteeing investors maximum returns accruing from joint property development economies of scale, in addition to rental income.
Investors can buy homes for rental purposes or own exclusive use. The lifestyle activities include golf, gym, spa, swimming, nature trail, excursions to Mt. Kenya, picnic and a bush spa in the wooded forest. The course is an executive nine-hole that will challenge players mainly due to the wind factor.
The location of the development affords great views of both Mt Kenya and the Aberdare Ranges, and convenient access to a variety of tourist sites and activities including climbing Mt. Kenya itself. “The project development consortium and the early bird investors alike are excited to have been nominated for the East Africa Property Awards,” Mr Okumu said. “Such a nomination particularly in such a hotly contested category is a significant endorsement.”
The integrated project will have a helipad, solar water heating and street lighting, solar-powered perimeter fence, rain water harvesting, water recycling and security.
