Nigerian police confirms release of 7 month old abducted baby

ASABA, Nigeria:July 4 (Xinhua) — Nigerian authorities have confirmed the release of a seven-month-old baby who had been kidnapped in Asaba State.

Police spokesperson Charles Muka of the southeastern state of Delta told reporters Tuesday night in Asaba, the state capital that the missing child was found at Agbor area of Asaba state. He said the police had arrested five suspects in connection with the incident.

The child was forcefully taken from his mother on July 1, during a burial ceremony at about 11 p.m, local time at Umunede area of the state. The police spokesperson told reporters that the suspects confessed their involvement in the crime. He added that the suspects confessed that they had bargained to sell the child for 250,000 naira (1600 U.S. dollars).

Efforts were on to arrest other fleeing suspects, the police officer said, adding that the suspects would soon face the full wrath of the law. The victim, according to Muka, has been reunited with the family.

Muka warned parents and guardians to diligently secure their children and wards from syndicates, stealing children. (Xinhua)
