UoN students burn tree that Obama planted in 2006

Barely a week after they threatened to do the unthinkable if US President Barack Obama fails to visit the institution, UoN students have burnt down the tree that Obama planted in 2006 when he visited the country while Illinois Senator, according to Ghafla website.

In a letter to the US embassy last week, SONU chairman Babu Owino requested to have the US president visit the institution.

Some of the students threatened to commit suicide, while others vowed to urinate on the tree that Obama planted at the university’s main campus if he did not address them. President Uhuru intervened and invited Babu Owino for dinner at State House with Obama.

In a rare twist of events, UoN students ignored President Uhuru’s offer and went on to burn the tree, a day after US security planes landed at Kenyatta University. This was taken to mean, Obama may instead visit Kenyatta University.
