Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga was yesterday evacuated to safety as gunshots rent the air in Yala town when rival youths clashed.

Mr Rasanga, who was touring projects initiated by his administration in the sub-county, was to address a public rally  in Yala town before he was met with a hostile group of youths allied to his fierce critic, Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo.

Trouble started after a youth attempted to grab the microphone from the governor, prompting his aides to move in swiftly. Police were forced to fire in the air to disperse the youth as the governor was driven away to safety.
