Vision Plus and global consumer electronics software giant Whale OS have signed a landmark partnership and license agreement that grants Kenyan households access to hundreds of AI-powered on-demand and live channels. The agreement enables Vision Plus to install the cutting-edge proprietary television operating system, which powers millions of devices globally in locally assembled television sets.
Vision Plus Managing Director Umesh Bhojwani stated that, as the first Kenyan electronics brand to be assembled locally at the Tatu City Special Economic Zone, and the first official ‘Made in Kenya’ electronics brand recognised by KEPROBA (Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency), the firm has identified key drivers for its decision to focus on Kenyan household behavioural insights.
“In this strategic collaboration, Vision Plus becomes the first company in the entire East African region to launch televisions powered by this advanced system, though the Whale TV software already powers millions of active sets in other jurisdictions worldwide,” said Umesh.
The strategic direction, he pointed out, is driven by a fast-evolving, well-informed market. Consumers, said Umesh, are frustrated with generic, unsupported platforms that quickly become obsolete or experience app instability. Recent surveys the firm conducted showed that artificial intelligence and ‘smart’ functionalities are a key consideration.

According to Umesh, more than 90% of Kenyan households with television sets placed a high value on application performance and stability, and regular, uninterrupted software updates. Whale TV+ offers hundreds of free live TV channels and thousands of hours of on-demand content with no subscription or registration required.
Vision Plus is the first brand in Kenya to launch TVs powered by Whale OS, an independent operating system already deployed on tens of millions of TVs globally. He added that more than half of them use their sets for gaming. “About 52 per cent are keen on image quality and lighting for a superior gaming, movies and sports, especially soccer, viewing experience”.
As a Certified Operating System, with official certifications for most premium apps including YouTube, Netflix and Prime Video, buyers are expected to experience true High definition (HD/4K).
Whale TV’s proprietary advertising platform also powers access to free content, creating a symbiotic ecosystem that connects three key stakeholders: Vision Plus provides the durable hardware, consumers enjoy premium entertainment at no extra cost, and Kenyan businesses gain a unique, high-impact channel to reach engaged audiences in their living rooms.
On regular, seamless software updates, Umesh noted that future-proofing and security were key hallmarks that ensure the TV remains functional, secure, and compatible with new app versions, together with a growing library of streaming platforms and video games available in the Whale TV App Store, directly contributing to the ultimate device life span that price-sensitive consumers demand.
