Kenya’s track and field stars on Friday night lit up the Brussels Diamond League Final in Belgium following the victories of Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Faith Cherotich.

Ms. Cherotich remained on course, storming to her 3rd Diamond League title in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, clocking a 8:51.61 record.

Wanyonyi, 22, on the other hand clocked 1:41.80 record to retain his men’s 800m Diamond League title for a fourth consecutive year.

He managed a great finish, beating Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati, who hit 1:42.71, even as France’s Yanis Meziane finished third clocking 1:42.87.

Doris Lemngole and Phanuel Koech secured podium finishes.

The athletics biggest event also saw legend Mike Boit receive a hero’s tribute after he was inducted into the Memorial Van Damme Hall of Fame in celebration of his pioneering legacy and historic 800m victory at the inaugural Memorial Van Damme in 1977.

“Another commanding performance. Another Diamond Trophy. Another proud moment for Kenya,” says sports Cabinet Secretary, Salim Mvurya.

2026 Wanda Diamond League Final, which marks the 50th edition of the Memorial Van Damme, came to a close on September 4–5, at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, Belgium.
