Motorists plying the Donholm-Jacaranda road this morning held a demonstrations to push the county government to repair the road. Protesters blocked roads in Donholm area said they were angered by the poor state of roads.

Commuters had to walk to Outer Ring Road to get means into town. The protest caused heavy traffic on Jogoo Road towards Outer Ring Road but has since then been dismissed as politically instigated by City Hall.

Walter Mongare, City Hall spokesperson, had earlier on said that the complaints will be dealt with. “We apologize to residents of Donholm. We’re working on it,” Mr Mongare told Nation FM.

The matatu operators and youths lit bonfires and blocked the Donholm-Savanna-Jacaranda road with stones rendering it impassable. Nairobi County Government has dismissed the protests, terming them politically motivated.

According to Nairobi County Executive for Transport, Mohammed Abdullahi, an aspiring politician organised the protest. Mr Abdullahi added that the contractor was on site and the rehabilitation of the road is ongoing, “therefore such demonstrations are unnecessary.”

The Donholm-Jacaranda Road, extending into Greenspan estates is full of potholes, making movement a nightmare for motorists and commuters. Residents are now demanding speedy action.
