A local health mobile solutions developer is the overall winner of this year’s ICT Innovation Award. Toto Health emerged winner after being voted the best for its application that provides information on mother and child health through the mobile phone.
The winners were announced at the ongoing Connected East Africa technology conference at Leisure Lodge Resort in Diani, Kwale County. Toto Health founder (pictured above, left) walked away with a Taifa laptop designed at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
Besides, Toto Health will receive three months free advertising on Elimu TV, free .co.ke domain and three years of free hosting. Toto Health also won the Healthcare delivery category award.
Boresha, a digital agency which has developed educational content aligned to the 8-4-4 system and which can be accessed through mobile devices, emerged top in the Education and Training category. The Financial Services category was won by M-Changa, whose mobile solution allows even users of basic feature phones to set up fundraising groups to raise money for different causes.
The Housing and Urbanization category was won by Keja Hunt, an online property listing platform for middle and low income categories from as low as Ksh5,000. The IT and Telecoms category award went to Kuhustle, online platform for jobs targeting jobseekers and employers, while Local and International Trade category was scooped by M-Shamba, a technology that links farmers to buyers and provides key farming information.
