The Principal Secretary (PS) in charge of Broadcasting and Telecommunication, Sammy Itemere, says plans were at an advanced stage to transform the Kenya News Agency (KNA) into a vibrant, reliable and efficient source of news and information.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on the Kakamega County Information Officer Monday, Mr. Itemere said the ongoing digitization at the Agency will soon see the adoption of the Electronic Workflow System that has specific windows for the various news items to enable the editorial team to easily carry out its work.
“We intend to make KNA the preferred source of news by adopting a quick, easy-to-access technological system for the subscribers and other information consumers,” he stated.
The PS at the same time explained that the government is on the watch out for people who may use the social media platforms to spread hate speech and any other material that could elicit ethnic animosity in the country.
He added that respective government agencies, including the ministry for Interior and Coordination of Government and the Media Council are working together in monitoring the information that is disseminated to the public.
He also called on eligible persons to enlist as voters so as to participate in the forthcoming elections. The PS complained about the low voter registration turn out and reminded the public that it was their constitutional obligation, as eligible voters to take part in the electoral process.
