Closing Bell: Mumias and Uchumi gain as market begins rebound

The Nairobi Securities Exchange opened the week with a total of Ksh459M worth of shares traded from the previous session’s Ksh603M. 

The NSE 20 Share Index ended 1.86 points higher to stand at 4780.48. The All Share Index (NASI) was up 0.52 points to stand at 163.34.

In agriculture Sasini Ltd was down 45 cents toKsh15.35, and moved 5,000 shares, while Williamson Tea moved 4,000 shares and closed at Ksh399.00.

The Banking Sector had 3.1M shares traded and represented 16.87% of the day’s traded volume. Kenya Commercial Bank actively moved 1.7M shares at between Ksh55.50 and Ksh57.00. Co-op Bank gained twenty five cents to close at Ksh21.75 on a volume of 532,000 shares. Equity Group Holdings moved 390,000 shares and closed at Kes.45.75.

Commercial & Services Sector moved 368,000 shares, which accounted for 1.98% of the day’s traded volume. Kenya Airways down 5.0% to Ksh6.60 moved 156,000 shares. Uchumi Supermarket moved 138,000 shares and closed at Ksh8.80.

Energy & Petroleum Sector moved 374,000 shares, which accounted for 2.01% of the day’s traded volume. Kenya Power was the heavily traded counter in this sector, with 206,000 shares changing hands at between Ksh17.15 and Ksh17.50. KenGen moved 129,000 shares and closed at Ksh9.20.

Insurance Sector moved 1.0M shares, which accounted for 5.85% of the day’s traded volume. British American Investment was up 50 cents to Ksh20.75 moved 410,000 shares changing hands at between Ksh20.00 and Ksh21.75. CIC moved 300,000 shares and closed at Ksh8.00.

Manufacturing & Allied Sector moved 1.9M shares, which represented 10.55% of the day’s traded volume. Mumias Sugar was up ten cents to Ksh1.95 moved 1.7M shares. EA Breweries declined to Ksh314.00 on a volume of 170,000 shares, down from Ksh315.00 posted the previous session.

Safaricom was the day’s biggest mover with 10M shares changing hands at between Ksh15.90 and Ksh16.70.
