Beer lovers will have to dig deeper in their pockets to have their favourite drink after East Africa Breweries Limited increased beer prices for the second time in four months. A crate of Tusker is now selling at Sh2,714 up from Sh2,523, which translates to a sh8 increase per bottle at the wholesale level.
The rise is geared to cover rising raw material cost and grow sales to reverse the drop in half-year profit. EABL is seeking to reverse the 14 percent drop in profit for the six months to December on account of high finance cost.
In his notice to distributor on 5th of July, Kenya Brewering Managing Director Joe Muganda said due to various economic factors that had impacted their cost of input, they had to increase their beer prices, according to a report in the Business Daily. He added that the new prices took from Saturday July 6, while the spirits prices remain unchanged.
