The stock market opened the week with a total of 11M shares valued at Ksh435M, down from Ksh439M on a volume of 18M shares posted last Friday.
The NSE 20 Share Index shed 5.44 points to stand at 4759.58, on a day that Uchumi Supermarket declined to Ksh9.75 from Ksh10.40 on news that the board had fired its CEO Jonathan Ciano and some other senior managers over fraudulent deals that had cost the company losses.
The All Share Index (NASI) was down 0.14 points to stand at 162.75. In agricultural sector, Williamson tea was 30% to Ksh345.00 for 14,000 shares traded. The Banking Sector had 983,000 shares traded and represented 8.50% of the day’s traded volume.
Barclays Bank was unchanged at Ksh15.35 moved 138,000 shares. Housing Finance moved 138,000 shares at between Ksh29.00 and Ksh29.75. KCB moved 189,000 shares and closed at Ksh57.50.

The Commercial & Services Sector accounted for 3.75% of the day’s traded volume. Kenya Airways was up 6.7% to Ksh6.40 moved 277,000 shares. Insurance Sector moved 711,000 shares, which accounted for 6.15% of the day’s traded volume. Ken yare moved 223,000 shares at a fairly stable price of Ksh17.00, while CIC Insurance Group moved 228,000 shares and closed at Ksh8.00.
Olympia Capital Holdings moved 90,000 shares and closed at an improved price of Ksh5.30.
The Manufacturing & Allied Sector moved 1.9M shares, which represented 16.72% of the day’s traded volume. Characid Investments & EA Breweries remained firm to trade at Ksh17.90 on 506,000 shares and Ksh317.00 on 695,000 shares respectively.
Safaricom closed five cents higher to Ksh16.10 on a volume of 6.9M shares.
