Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett has summoned Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula to record a statement after alleging that he knows businessman Jacob Juma’s killers and would name them during his burial on Saturday.
In a statement, the IG said that police expect Senator Wetangula to discern credible facts from ordinary hearsay and thereafter inform the police as soon as possible for appropriate action.
“We are also aware that there has been a great deal of media speculation regarding the circumstances surrounding the murder that include clearly unfounded accusations being made by some politicians to the effect that some police units were involved in the murder,” read a statement sent by the IG to newsrooms.
Juma was shot dead by unknown assailants on May 5th near Lenana School as he drove to his Karen residence.
According to police reports, the businessman’s car had ten bullet holes, an indication that close to 20 bullets were used during the murder.

“We wish to inform the public that whist we commiserate with the family for the tragic loss, we are cognizant of the fact that murders of fairly high profile individuals naturally attract lots of public attention and all manner of speculation. However, we in the police make no exceptions in our investigations, but follow diligently the procedure as prescribed in the law.”
“This murder case is therefore receiving the necessary attention following due processes and procedures. It is therefore in this respect that we wish to appeal to anyone with any piece of information that may assist our investigations to contact the nearest police station for further action,” further read the statement.
The IG assured that a team of experienced detectives has been assigned to the case to follow it diligently with a view of arresting those involved in the murder.
The late Juma is set to be buried this weekend at his home in Mungore village, Khasoko area of Bumula Constituency.
His requiem mass will be held on Thursday at All Saints cathedral from 10am. Citizen Digital.
