National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) director Isaac Ochieng has revealed that terror groups are targeting Kenyan youths in universities to join them.

Mr Ochieng’, who spoke during an anti-terrorism conference yesterday disclosed that authorities already have a list of students drawing salaries from al Shabaab.

“We have intelligence that there are students within the University of Nairobi (UoN) who are on the payroll of Al-Shabaab. It is very sad,” he is quoted saying by Daily Nation.

His remarks that even ISIS was recruiting local youths left many people who attended the conference, including Interior PS Monica Juma and  UoN Vice Chancellor, visibly surprised.

The NCTC boss said the anti-terrorism officers are after the radicalised youths in institutions of higher learning.

Al Shabaab’s training and indoctrination of university students came to light after the Garissa University College when it was revealed that the terrorists’ leader was a 24-year-old former law student. (tuko.co.ke)
