The social networking site was then called Twttr and the now what is known as tweet was described as a “short burst of inconsequential information”.

Twitter under the management of Jack Dorsey and Chairman Omid Kardestani boasts of over 300 million active users with many people still registering everyday.

US President Barack Obama has the fourth most popular account with over six million users and 83 per cent of world leaders including President Uhuru Kenyatta have a Twitter handle.

The social networking site has a total of 3,638 employees as of 2015 and is estimated to be worth US $ 2.21 billion in revenue as of 2015.
