The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has called for applications for various teaching positions in public primary, secondary and teacher training colleges across the country.
In an advertisement that the TSC placed in newspapers on today, the commission says it is seeking to employ 2,200 teachers to be posted in the institutions. Out of these, 1,767 positions are for teachers in public primary schools and 432 will be posted to the other institutions.
Ten of those will be headteachers to be deployed in Nairobi county schools. Applicants for teaching position in primary schools must be holders of P1 certificate and will be selected from the county level.

Those seeking to fill positions in other levels will need to have at least a diploma in education. The deadline for the application is October 7 and will be seeking to fill the positions of teachers who left the service between May 1 and July 31, 2015.
“The recruitment exercise is free of charge. TSC would like to forewarn applicants against fraudsters who might extort money from unsuspecting persons purporting to assist in recruitment,” the advert reads in part.
TSC is currently facing a work boycott by its teachers in public schools since Monday August 31 when schools opened for third term. Schools were closed on Friday September 18 as a result of the boycott and the commission has vowed not to paid the teachers who want their salaries increased by 50 – 60% as ordered by a Supreme Court judge.
The court ruling is expected on Friday September 25 to determine the legality of the strike (Tuko.co.ke).
