Electronics giant Samsung Electronics has launched a new phone in the Kenyan market a product meant to raise internet penetration through mobile devices.

Samsung Galaxy Pocket will enable cell phone users to upgrade from the basic mobile handsets functionalities to smart phone capabilities.

Speaking during the launch at Hilton Hotel, Samsung Electronic East Africa Business Leader Robert Ngeru said that the handset is expected to perform well amongst discerning subscribers seeking to enjoy a superior Smartphone experience at an affordable cost.

Coming with a 2-year warranty, the new Galaxy Pocket is priced at KES 9999 and allows users to multitask between several applications, according to Mr Ngeru.

He said: “Samsung Galaxy Pocket as well as other Samsung smartphones provides our users with two unique benefits not available in feature phones.

First, the user is able to multi task between several applications without having to close any of them. This enhances the user’s experience and allows them to be more productive.

Secondly, Samsung smartphones allow the users to add new features and services to their phones using a downloaded application restricted to only the factory installed applications but can expand their experiences by downloading new applications. More than 400,000 applications are available for download.”

The phone is now available at Samsung dealers across the country as well as major supermarkets.
