Push for Ruto’s re-election gains momentum

Kenya’s political leaders aligned with the government appear to be doing a lot of heavy lifting in push for president William Ruto’s re-election.

Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi, whose Kisumu meeting majorly focused on preparations for the 2027 General Election as well as strengthening political organisation, and ensuring credible party nominations, is convinced the opposition members are afraid, very afraid of “entering the field.”

“The opposition must stop spending all its time attacking the IEBC,” Mudavadi said stressing that Kenyans eyeing political posts in the 2027 General Election need to stop attacking the Electoral commission with no clear reason.

Ruto’s re-election bid is also reenforced by Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi who has, in many occasions said leaders, especially those from Nyanza region should back Dr. Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.

“It is under this administration that our people have been included in Kenya’s development plan. Therefore, we will support William Ruto in 2027 so that he gets another five-year mandate,” Wandayi explains.

The push by experienced politicians for Dr. Ruto to secure a second term reflects clear and familiar patterns in politics. And comes at a time when there are so many candidates eyeing the presidency, but no clear picture of who will be Kenya’s next president.

But there are clearly some opposition leaders with compelling reasons why Ruto should not be elected for a second term, over what they describe as “unfulfilled promises.”

Nyandarua Senator John Methu says: “Ruto has failed to fulfill his promises.”

DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has also sustained his one candidate “pledge” saying that there is no problem supporting a nother candidate in bid to “take Ruto home.”

The former DP is even ready to deputise Senator Sifuna, just to make it happen.

“I can deputise him. Sifuna can deputise Kalonzo, Kalonzo can deputise Sifuna,” Gachagua says.

Another also making bold statements calling the current deputy president Kithure Kindiki to consider ditching the ruling Kenya Kwanza party in bid to deny Ruto a chance in the next elections is one People’s Renaissance Movement party leader, Caleb Amisi.

Amisi says: “Ruto’s ship keeps sinking. We better save Kindiki before it’s a little too late (Heri tumtoe before meli izame).”

Presidential (and any other elective post) cannot be handed over; Contestants must face credible and transparent nominations.
