Since its inauguration in 2024, Mazingira Day has strengthened collective action towards climate change mitigation and environmental conservation.
This year’s commemoration is under “Our Environment, Our Responsibility: Collective Action for Tree Growing and Environmental Stewardship” theme.
Internal Security and national administration Dr. Raymond Omollo says through initiatives such as the Chiefs’ Climate Action Day, which brings National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) together with local communities to protect green spaces, and Climate WorX, which engages young people in conserving blue spaces, Kenya continues to advance practical solutions for a sustainable environment.
“The green on our national flag symbolises the importance of our natural heritage to national prosperity. Our ambition for a Kenya Beyond Vision 2030 can only be realised in an enabling environment where natural resources are protected, communities thrive and development is sustainable,” Dr. Omollo says.
He adds: “As we mark Mazingira Day 2026, let us renew our shared responsibility to protect our environment for present and future generations.”
