Nakuru politician, Peter Ole Sono who on Friday shot at journalists covering a story at Ol-Jorai settlement scheme, was today morning disarmed at Elementaita police station. County Director of Criminal investigations, James Leila confirmed that a probe into the incident where six journalists escaped death by a whisker had kicked off.

This came even as County human rights network director, David Kuria condemned the attack.
“The incident was unfortunate and misuse of a licensed gun. The politician should face the full force of the law,” said Kuria.

The human rights activist further called on the state to safeguard the rights of journalists as contained in the constitution. “Journalists have been attacked severally this year while on duty. The government must guarantee their security,” added Kuria.

The enraged county Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party chairman shot at the journalists who were covering a land dispute at the settlement scheme. They had gone to find out if a public road that had been closed down by the politician was opened as directed by the National Land Commission.

The NLC chairman, Dr Muhammad Swazuri, had directed the county commissioner to open the road since its closure was greatly inconveniencing  hundreds of school children. The politician had grabbed the land.
