Under the theme Sporting for Conservation, Tourism and Peaceful Cultural Interactions, the event is scheduled to take place between 14th to 16th August 2015 in Maralal, Samburu County.

According to KTB, one of the major sponsors of this event, over 12 countries have registered to participate. KTB Managing Director Muriithi Ndegwa noted that the event has not only profiled Samburu on the global map but the country at large.

He said KTB is leveraging on the event to drive both local and international visitors to the county.

“Northern tourism circuit is a virgin tourism destination we are aggressively marketing. A part from showcasing the culture, the beautiful sceneries in the region provide opportunity for filming, sight-seeing, trekking and other excursions,” he said.

Last year, the annual event attracted participations from countries such as US, UK, Germany, Netherlands, India, Ghana, France, China, Mozambique, and Mexico among others.

Samburu County Governor Moses Lenolkulal said:  “This year’s camel derby is unique in itself as we have borrowed and learnt from our experiences and best practices over the years to prepare a thrilling and a special package for our visitors, participants and spectators. Indeed our accommodation facilities in the country are fully booked”.

Samburu County Government has set aside Ksh12 milllion for the annual event that has gained international recognition over the years. Winners of the different categories of the camel races will be awarded prizes while some money will be channeled towards helping the poor and vulnerable groups such as orphans and disabled in the community.
