NAIROBI – Manchester United legends Andrew Cole and Quinton Fortune yesterday unveiled the Barclays English Premier League trophy, one of the most celebrated symbols in world football, to Kenyan fans at Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi.
Cole and Fortune have accompanied the trophy on a tour of Kenya sponsored by Casillero del Diablo, the premium wine manufactured by Chilean based Concha y Toro and distributed in East Africa by Viva Productline. Concha y Toro is a sponsor of the Manchester United team.
The wine rides on unique historical links with the EPL defending champions, who are also known as the Red Devils. The two are also leaders in their respected fields – Man U in football and Casillero del Diablo in winery. Interestingly, Casillero del Diablo has 11 varieties, which tallies with the 11 players who form a team.
“I would like to thank Casillero del Diablo represented by Viva Productline in Kenya for hosting us this evening,” Cole said. “This partnership is truly unique in that you have two recognisable leaders in their respective industries coming and working together in unison.” Concha y Toro signed the global partnership with Manchester United in November 2010.
The trophy was unveiled to a crowd of nearly 200 people, mostly fans of the EPL and Casillero Del Diablo, giving football fans a unique lifetime opportunity to see the magnificent giant silver and gold cup at close range. The trophy stands at two feet five inches and twenty four inches wide and weighs four stone.
From Kenya, the trophy will also visit other African countries including Uganda, Tanzanian and Ghana. “Viva Productline, in association with Casillero del Diablo is extremely proud the first stop the trophy is making in Kenya,” said Viva Productline CEO Rupen Samani.
