Internet connection on the TEAMS cable has been fully restored following successful completion of maintenance works at the UAE Port of Fujairah.

Servicing the The East African Marine System cable that was carried out between July 19 to July 28 was aimed at enhancing resistance against ships and other external disturbances.

During the period, major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) reported minimal interruptions as they had migrated their international internet traffic to other undersea cables, averting interruptions that were anticipated.

TEAMS, jointly owned by the government and the private sector, connects Kenya to the international network via Fujairah in the UAE.

“We are very pleased to inform our esteemed customers that the scheduled preventive maintenance works were successfully concluded on 28th July 2016 and traffic was fully restored from 00600hrs on 28th July 2016,” Joel Tanui managing director TEAMS cable said in a statement.

Shareholders in the TEAMS consortium includes the government of Kenya, Safaricom, Telkom Kenya, Liquid Telecom Kenya, Jamii Telecom, Wananchi Telecom, Access Kenya Group and Bandwidth & Cloud Services Group.

Besides TEAMS, the country is linked to three other undersea cables – Seacom, Eassy and LION2.
