Blogger Robert Alai now says he was misled by a very senior individual that Deputy President William Ruto was rushed to Nairobi Hospital after collapsing at his Karen residence. In a conversation with lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi, Alai denied he wishes the DP any misfortune, insisting he was just a messenger.

Mr Abdullahi sparked off the conversation when he said that what Alai did was evil since Ruto is human and whether or not one likes his politics, there is no reason to wish him bad. The senior counsel also challenged Alai, saying the trouble with bloggers is that they do not verify facts and in the long run this dents their credibility.

“@ahmednasirlaw What do I do when the person who is very senior and has been consistent for 6 years lets me down? Tricky @kipmurkomen,” Alai then tweeted.

“I understand,” Abdullahi responded.

Alai’s post triggered a fierce debate online even as it emerged the DP was in Mandera where he received President Uhuru Kenyatta at the start of his three-day tour of north eastern. Some even issued death threats to Alai as others attributed the reported incident to the rituals conducted during the burial of businessman Jacob Juma in Bungoma.

The tycoon was buried with a lit torch, knife and tortoise to help him hunt down his killers according to Bukusu beliefs. Perhaps out of fun, Kenyans online speculated the torch may have gone off. Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo claimed the DP was behind the assassination of Jacob Juma, which he has spiritedly denied, saying he did not even know him personally.

Meanwhile, Alai reposted a post ostensibly by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale that announced the DP indeed collapsed and was rushed to hospital as he fought to vindicate himself. It appears it is a pseudo account as it is not verified by Twitter.

“I guess many of us were fooled. Some deleted their tweets so fast while I thought that it was the truth. All the over 800 threats and messages are not necessary. Some sound like war cry. But I am happy that the DP is fine. I hope that you are satisfied. Thanks,” he said on Twitter.

However, another tweet by Duale read: Arrived with DP in Mandera, Northern Kenya ahead of President 3-day visit of the region.”
