Etihad Cargo, the cargo division of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) national carrier Etihad Airways, has been crowned the ‘Cargo Airline of the Year’ by aviation magazine Air Transport News (ATN).
Etihad received the award in Geneva in recognition for commitment to developing the global freight market through the opening of new routes and introduction of innovative products that has created a cordial relationship with other players in the aviation industry. A jury of airline industry experts took part in choosing the best in class.
Speaking at the award ceremony, the carrier’s Chief Strategy and Planning Officer, Kevin Knight said: “We are honoured to receive this award in recognition of our commitment to working closely with our partners across the industry, ensuring our customers have greater access to new routes and services that enhance the two-way flow of trade and commerce between key and the emerging markets across our global network.”
In a bid to expand their networks from Europe to establish a global presence, the Abu Dhabi based airline plans to launch eight new routes in addition to the lowerdeck capacity on 10 services introduced at the close of 2014, bringing to 111 the total number of passenger and cargo destinations served directly from its hub in the middle East.
Etihad launched its first Airbus A380, outfitted with “the only three-room suite in the sky” in December last year. The airbus has been operating daily to London Heathrow since December 27 and features “The Residence by Etihad,” a three-room suite, complete with a living room, a private bathroom with shower and a bedroom, as well as a dedicated butler at the very front of the plane’s upper deck.
