East African Portland Cement (EAPCC) will inject Ksh10 million in social investment to the community around its limestone quarry in Kajiado County. This will be invested in various projects in water, infrastructure and education, says Managing Director Simon Peter Ole Nkeri.

This is expected to benefit the Nkama group ranch members where the over 1,000-acre quarry lies in Kajiado East Constituency. The MD also issued bursaries amounting to Ksh1 million for the last financial year where he promised that the company would double to ensure it impacts more needy cases.

“The projects will include sinking a borehole, digging earth dams, water piping and renovating Kibini Primary School to a center of excellence,” he said.

He noted that though the school is government run, the company would go out of its way to ensure it accommodates as many needy cases in the area. Mr Ole Nkeri noted that the company is implementing turnaround strategy where one of its main pillars is the community in which it conducts its business.

“We are determined to turn the company around to a positive trajectory and we need all our stakeholders on board,” he told the community.

Kenyawa/Poka ward MCA Mr Henry Kimiti welcomed the projects, assuring the EAPCC management of the community’s support. “For the Eselengei-Sultan road, we will work together to ensure it is dealt with as a matter of urgency. The support of the company comes in handy,” he added.

A three-kilometre pipeline will be constructed to redirect traffic from the Elerai Borehole, which has been serving the nearby schools and community.
