Soft drinks manufacturer Coca Cola has unveiled a new home delivery service allowing consumers to order various products from the comfort of their homes.

The platform known as DialaCoke is accessible online, and allows users to add energy drinks, water and soda to their carts before checking out.

Before the products are dispatched, users are required to fill in a delivery address and the date the products are required. The service promises delivery within three hours.

It will initially be available in major cities and towns including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret although expansion plans are said to be in the pipeline.

Notably, the service was launched as part of the company’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic which has negatively impacted sales.

At a recent press briefing, Sales and Marketing Director (Kenya) Josephat Mwangi disclosed that Coca Cola had compensated distributors more than Ksh32 million for dead stock, with drinks expiring at depots around the country.

Distributors have been returning drinks to the manufacturer after their expiry date, with the soft drinks having a shelf life of three to four months.

Coca Cola has been swapping out the expired bottles at no extra cost to distributors, absorbing the cost during the Covid-19 period.

Restrictions on operating hours of entertainment joints including bars and restaurants have primarily contributed to the situation.

It is expected that the new home delivery service will open up another distribution channel for Coca Cola.

“We have developed the DialACoke.com platform to ensure our consumers continue to access and enjoy their favourite Coca-Cola drinks from the convenience of their homes,

“The home delivery service, coupled with our wide national reach through our distributors, will ensure delivery of orders across the country,” stated Theuri Chege, Coca-Cola commercial manager for East and Central Africa region.
