Kanbis Sports Club cricket team has received Ksh 2.1 million from Crown Paints to support its activities at Eastleigh High School. The club, which has 70 players, 50 of them registered in various divisions in the main league, plays an important role in uplifting the game’s standards in the country

Crown Paints Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Rao said the donation will go towards sustaining the team’s expenses over the season. “The equipment required to play this game is costly as well as maintenance of playing facilities,” he said, “we therefore support all these expenses to ensure the team succeed.”

Kanbis Sports Club was started in 1977 with the primary sport being cricket but since then it has diversified to other sporting activities such as volleyball, motorsport, darts, snooker, squash and badminton among other indoor sports.

“This is the highest cricketing competition in the country. For the past many years both divisions of the league have been won by the club’s cricket teams including various other cricket tournaments in Kenya,” the chairman of the club, Mr Dinesh Patel, said.

Presently, four of the clubs cricketers represent the national cricket team including national skipper Rakep Patel. Seven other players also represent the national team in various age level teams. The other 20 players in the team are at various age group categories from under 17 to 15 years.
