Parliament has rejected President Uhuru kenyatta’s nomimee for the position of Secretary to the Cabinet, Dr Monica Juma.

She was to replace Francis Kimemia who stepped down after he was linked to a corruption case, but was later cleared by the Ethics and Anti-corruption commission. The President will have to send another nominee to the National Assembly for approval.

There was heated debate over  Dr Juma’s appointment with a  section of the members, led by the Leader of Majority Adan Duale unsuceesfully seeking an extention of the appointment period by 10 days.

Finally, it came down to a vote, where MPs opposed to Dr Monica Juma’s appointment won overwhelmingly with 163 votes against 55. Those against her said while she had the right credentials, she lacked etiquette while communicating to elected leaders.

The National Assembly approved the nomination of Eugene Wamalwa as the Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary.
