Nairobi, Dec. 13 2011 – A college student from one of the tertiary institutions in Kakamega County today won Sh1 million from the on-going ‘Furahi na Safaricom’ promotion.

Lilian Amoka was awarded the one million cheque alongside other winners who included Timothy Ngahu (Primary teacher, Maralal), Japheth Bundi (Primary Teacher, Nyamira) and Monica Ogutu (Primary Teacher, Bungoma). Amoka said the money was going to help her in paying her school fees since she is orphaned.

“After the death of my father, my mother has been struggling to raise me up and ensuring I get the best education. And since I have been worried about the completion of my studies due to inadequate fees, I now have hopes to accomplish my course work thanks to Safaricom.”

Awarding the winners at the Safaricom headquarters, Nicholas Mulila, Director Executive Business, Safaricom Limited said the promotion was a Christmas gift to the company’s over 18millionsubscribers.

“We’ve presented cheques to 15 millionaires in the last three weeks and today we are presenting other 5 winners with 1 million cheques each and we thank all our dear subscribers for their participation as we look forward to more Kenyans millionaires. Remember, the key to winning is topping up with airtime and talking to your friends and family this festive season.”

The promotion which began last month is expected to close down this week on Friday with more Kenyans expected to be rewarded at the end of the promotion.
