Fans of Congolese musician Koffi Olomide left high and dry after Koffi Olomide deported on Saturday for reportedly kicking a woman on arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.

The musician was deported aboard Kenya Airways flight KQ554 to Kinshasa at 11:30am.

The lingala music star was set to host his East African fans to a mega concert at Bomas of Kenya today. This will cause lots of losses for teh organisers of the event who had hopped to reap from the show. Those who had bouht tickets of the show may lose their money.

On Saturday, the musician’s lawyer, Prof George Wajackoyah, said they had been “treated like animals” claiming the Kenya government had deported the musician and his dancers to Congo “even without their passports.”

He said the man was crucified by the social media and the politicians, who judged him harshly. He pointed out that there was no complainant, besides being deported before they could go to court on Monday.

The musician was arrested at around 10 pm on Friday along Denis Pritt Road in Nairobi, as he left Citizen TV studios from an interview. He was arrested alongside his crew of three women dancers, police said.

On Saturday, police said the musician had been arrested for creating disturbance at the airport.

The Congolese star spent the night at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport police station. He was moved from the JKIA Police Station on Saturday morning and taken to the airside where his fingerprints were taken before boarding a plane.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet ordered airport police to take action against Olomide after a video went viral on social media showing how the Congolese musician assaulted one of his female dancers. Despite being caught on camera kicking the dancer only identified as Pamela, Olomide denied and insisted that he was protecting his crew from an unspecified person who was threatening their security.

Among Koffi Olominde’s big hits is Wake Up, a 2008 track in which he featured his fallen friend Papa Wemba. The YouTube version of the video attracted hundreds views after Papa Wemba dramatically died during a concert in April.

Koffi has released a new single, a new talk-about Lingala hit that is dedicated to the late Papa Wemba. It is this song that Koffi Olominde had hoped to break the ground with in Kenya for his much-anticipated concert. Since the announcement of his concert hundreds of fans have been buying tickets to avoid the last minute disappointment. In fact, the demand for Koffi Olominde across the region is so huge that after the Kenyan show, another concert had been arranged for Juba, Southern Sudan where the event organiser has negotiated for another show.
