An employee of telecommunications giant Safaricom arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of engaging in the SIM-swap fraud was arraigned in an Eldoret court yesterday charged with cybercrime.
Ms Linda Najoli Idodi, who was arrested with an accomplice Douglas Kiplimo, appeared before Eldoret chief magistrate Charles Obulutsa charged with stealing from a Safaricom client by illegally accessing the clients account.
The court was informed that the suspects used a computer to withdraw Sh. 38,000 from Anne Cherop Tarus’s account.
The magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded at Eldoret central police station to give the prosecution time to complete its investigations. The suspect also faces a similar charge in Kitale.
Obulutsa further directed that the suspect be brought to court on Monday July 30 if the case in Kitale will not proceed.
