Wanyama to face Messi in Champions League

Kenyan midfielder Victor Mugubi Wanyama will lock horns with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi after the Champions League draw saw his side Celtic grouped with Barcelona.

In the draw done yesterday in Monaco, France, the Scottish Champions are in Group G and will play Barcelona, along with Benfica and Spartak Moscow. Reigning European Champions Chelsea is in Group E where they face a tester against Italian giants Juventus.

Also in the group is Shakhtak Donetsk and Danish champions Nordsjaelland. Barclays Premier League Champions Man City will face La Liga Champions Real Madrid as well as Ajax and Borussia Dortmund.

Manchester United takes on Braga, Galatasaray and Cluj in Group H while Arsenal has landed Shalke, Olympiakos and Montpellier in Group B.

Wanyama’s brother Macdonald Mariga who began his professional career at Helsinborg, was part of Inter Milan’s Champions’ League squad that won the lucrative trophy during the 2009-2010 season, under the tutelage of José Mourinho.

Celtic joined the Champions League after seeing off Swedish club Helsinborg , in a match Celtic won on 4-0 aggregate, a match Wanyama scored. Mugubi hit the net in the 88th minute making his club, Celtic, to advance to the group stages of the Champions League.
