US President Barrack Obama has appointed Robert F. Godec as the new US ambassador to Kenya to replace his predecessor Major Scott Gration, according to Daily Post.

Godec’s forerunner Scott resigned from the post in June this year citing ‘differences’ with Washington over his leadership style.

Prior to his appointment, Robert F Godec was serving as the principal deputy coordinator in the Bureau of Counter-terrorism at the State Department.

In a statement from the US embassy in Nairobi on Monday, the embassy stated: “The US embassy in Nairobi is pleased to announce the arrival of Ambassador Robert F Godec, who assumed duty as Charg’e d ‘Affaires of the US Mission in Kenya beginning August 27, 2012.”

Even though the length of his stay was not specified, it is understood that Mr Godec‘s brief stay includes making preparations for Kenya’s next general election.

His appointment comes barely three weeks following the visit to Kenya by the US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton.
