BRAZZAVILLE, Congo: Aug. 13 (Xinhua) — The Republic of Congo’s economy is to grow by more than 5 percent this year, President Denis Sassou Nguesso said Monday.

“The general trend of the Congolese economy remains good,” he said in a speech to the parliament. “If the data recorded in the first half is to consolidate at the end of this year, the Congolese economy could maintain growth above 5 percent,” he added.

The president also noted that the country has a fiscal revenue that “now far exceeded 3,000 billion CFA francs (5.7 billion U.S. dollars).”

That is mainly thanks to the oil sector, which, as the primary source of income, has seen sustained growth by enlarging exploitation areas, he added. (Xinhua)
