Mobile social communication application, WeChat, is now available on the Nokia Asha Touch family of smartphones. WeChat enhances user social interaction by supporting exchanges of text, voice, emoticons, and photos with their friends over a mobile or data network.

WeChat for Nokia Asha touch smartphones comes with its signature “Hold-to-Talk” feature which allows users to send voice messages. Users can also chat with a maximum of 40 friends online through WeChat’s group chat feature. Nokia’s Head of Developer Engagement, Innovation and Corporate Relations East Africa, Moses Sitati, said the company is committed to continually enhancing the user experience on Nokia Asha smartphones, especially through social networking and messaging apps which continue to grow in popularity.

“We’re excited about WeChat’s support to launch WeChat for Nokia Asha smartphones. It enriches the Nokia Asha user experience and we look forward to working closely with WeChat to bring even more innovative features to our customers across all our smartphones and in a growing number of countries and devices.”

Designed to easily chat with friends or to connect with people from all around the world, WeChat enables users to add friends through various methods including connecting via phone books and WeChat ID. “We recently launched WeChat for the Asha range globally,” says Brett Loubser, Managing Director of WeChat Africa. “Ultimately we want as many people as possible across Africa to experience WeChat, and we understand the success Nokia has had with the Asha range on the continent. Delivering the best possible WeChat user experience is our highest priority, and we believe the new Asha version of WeChat will reinforce this ideal and delight our users”.

As a precautionary measure to safeguard the privacy of WeChat users, only friends who are granted permission to connect will be able to communicate to the users.  The application is available for download in Nokia Store and official WeChat website.
