NAIROBI – Unilever yesterday joined the First Lady’s Beyond Zero Campaign and donated Sh8 millions towards a mobile medical clinic. “This campaign in line with Unilever’s Sustainable Living Plan commitment to improve health and, most importantly, supports the Millennium Development Goals,” said James Jakachira, the Unilever Brand Building Director for East Africa, during the cheque presentation to the first lady at State House Nairobi.
A team of Unilever employees will join the First Lady and other runners in the half marathon on 9th March. “We need collaborative partnerships that bring together the public, private and NGO sectors to find solutions for the key social challenges that countries and communities face, like maternal and child health. We welcome the opportunity to have Unilever with us on this journey,” Mrs Kenyatta said.
While in Kenya last year, Unilever’s Global CEO Paul Polman hosted Kenya’s First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta, for a global handwashing event at a Nairobi primary school. The company’s hand washing soap, Lifebuoy, is seeking to help more than a billion people improve their hygiene habits by 2020. “We also want to raise awareness on the importance of optimal nutrition for children; they need the right nutrients to have a good start in life,” said Mr Jakachira.
