Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter and Sonia Birdi, a nominated MP, appeared in a Naivasha court today charged with creating disturbances, incitement and using the name of the President to invoke fear.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on a cash bail of Ksh150,000 each or bond of Ksh350,000 each.

The Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko had directed EACC to prosecute the duo and further directed that the matter be referred to the National Assembly for disciplinary action and initiation of appropriate mechanisms for their removal from office.

The High Court on Tuesday declined to stop the prosecution of the two MPs over a January incident in which the legislators stormed the Gilgil weighbridge threatening and insulting police officers and staff for failing to clear a truck belonging to Birdi.

The matter will be mentioned on June 3rd while hearing has been set for July 9th.
