Police in Nyahururu have intensified patrols around Njonjo Girls High School after leaflets warning of possible terrorist attacks were found in the school.
Nyahururu Sub County AP Commander Daniel Masaba has confirmed that three leaflets warning of worse terrorist attacks than ‘the Garrisa University one’ had been found in the school. “We are on the lookout as we carryout investigations on the masterminds of the threats,” he said while addressing the media this morning in his office.
He said that police suspect the warnings were being propagated by the teachers on strike, noting that the school had opened last week but had been forced to close down. “Make arrangements to take your children out of the school as soon as possible,” one of the hand-written notes read in part.
A teacher who sought anonymity said that the students were allowed to go home on voluntary basis, with the school administration fearing that the threats coupled with the ongoing teacher’s strike would worsen the situation. “The students were scared and had threatened to leave the school on Sunday, but calmed down on noticing the intensified police patrols,” he told KNA.
