Mobile communications operator, Safaricom, yesterday launched a sustainability report that identifies major sustainability risks and outlines the measures that the company is taking to ensure a successful future.
During the launch at the Michael Joseph Centre in Nairobi, Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore said that the company was laying down measures that will ensure that its future is safe, in regard to the enviromnemnt as well as giving back to the community.
“We have taken the bold move to embrace sustainability reporting since we know the business of nowadays has to move from just doing the right things to doing things the right way,” said Collymore, who is also a board menber of the United Nations global compact.
The sustainability report is meant to enhance the company’s positioning in the investor market, which will in turn make its shares attractive to global investors who place a premium on sustainable business practices.
According to the report, the mobile operator, has witnessed a continued customer growth with mobile broadband and M-PESA increasing revenues by 12.8% from 2011.
