Resolution Health CEO , Peter Nduati, has been nominated for this year’s All Africa Business Leaders Awards, in the Business Leader of the Year category.

When it entered the Kenyan market in 2002 Resolution Health took an unbeaten path, becoming the first company to be registered as a medical insurance provider under the then newly passed Insurance Act, with the role of coordinating and financing health care.

At its launch, Resolution Health, pioneered with the offering of individual optical, dental, HIV and maternity covers; becoming a niche services provider in its category. Since then, Resolution Health consistently reviewed and enhanced its products every three years, to suit market needs. It is this innovation that has seen Resolution Health’s claim recognition amongst its peers in the industry, emerging as the Medical Insurance Provider of the Year 2012 in just nine years of operation.

In the 2011/ 2012 financial year, under Peter Nduati’s stewardship, Resolution Health attracted an investment of Kshs184 million from a German investor for a 25.1 per cent stake, a vote of confidence in his leadership.

During that year, the company grew by 47 per cent growth of Kshs 207 million as the economy was dithering, weighed down by inflation and loss of disposable income. Over the years the firm has continuously realized premium and membership growth while maintaining an excellent loss ratio: the current loss ratio is 58.

Other finalists who have been honoured alongside the trailblazing Mr Nduati who also owns and manages PineCreek Records, a music record label, are Car & General’s Vijay Gidoomal and Bidco’s Vimal Shah.

For this category, the judging panel was looking out for captains of industry who have shown outstanding leadership in business, achieving positive financial results, increased shareholder value, sound management, proven corporate governance, and demonstrated innovation, best business practices and accountability, together with intangible qualities such as integrity and vision.

The judging panel for the East Africa chapter included the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Strathmore Business School, Dr George Njenga; Josephat Mwaura, Chief Executive Officer of KPMG East Africa; and Mary Waceke Muia, Performance Management manager at Kengen.
