Here is President Kenyatta’s message to Muslims during the holy month of Ramadhan.

Last night, I extended warm greetings and my best wishes to the Kenyan Muslim fraternity on the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadhan.

As a religious nation, faith remains a central pillar in the life of our nation. Religious institutions play an indispensable role in fostering the essential values of tolerance, love, unity, compassion, charity, integrity and service. This function is critical at this time when we are faced with threats against our cohesive identity as Kenya.

This morning, I met my security team to review security arrangements during Ramadhan.
I have instructed the Cabinet Secretary and his team to enhance security throughout the country during this Holy Month. I have asked him to make all necessary arrangements to ensure that our Muslim brothers and sisters fulfill their religious obligations without any impediment.

In this context, the security agencies will review all measures, including the current curfew in the counties of Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Lamu and Tana River.

In the same light, and aware that the enemies of our country may wish to exploit this season, I call upon the entire Muslim fraternity and its leadership to remain vigilant, and do everything in their power, to cooperate fully with the security agencies in order to safeguard this Holy Month.

I have also been briefed on progress in the on-going investigations on the financing of terrorism. I have noted the proposal to lift the suspension of licenses for 13 registered Money Remittance Providers.

In the light of this, I direct the Central Bank of Kenya to immediately issue comprehensive regulations that guide the operation of MRPs, upon which their suspension would be lifted.

Wishing all Muslims a Blessed Ramadhan.

Uhuru Kenyatta, C.G.H.,
President of the Republic of Kenya
