Members of Parliament from Western Kenya have accused Raila Odinga of contributing to the near-collapse of Mumias Sugar Company. Led by Ayub Savula (Lugari) and Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), the legislators  said the Kisumu Molases plant, owned by the Odinga family, owes Mumias Ksh300 million.

While dismissing Raila’s recent meeting with a section of leaders from Western Kenya over how to salvage the troubled sugar miller, the MPs said Raila is part of the company’s current woes.

“He let Mumias go down when he (Raila) was Prime Minister and the people who also allowed this to happen are sitting comfortable in his party,” Benjamin Washiali, Mumias East MP.

That Mumias Sugar supplied Molasses to Raila’s plant but the bill has never been settled thus contributing to the millers current cash problems. The MPs accused Raila of playing politics with Mumias troubles and that Western Kenya has never benefited from him.

It is said that Raila held a meeting with MPs from four Western Kenya Counties to deliberate on ways of reviving Pan Paper factory and Mumias Sugar Company.
